Wookie Widget Deployment via web interface

Hello everybody,

I am working in the public founded project OMELETTE where we are using Apache Wookie. We are using it since some time. In a former version there was the possibility to add widgets to Wookie via the web interface but in the current version (0.10) I did not find the feature again. As long as you are in control of the server it is fine to use the deploy folder but for deploying singe widgets it would be good to have the deployment feature again in the web interface.

Thanks and best regards

Hi Stephan,

The removal of the UI was agreed back in May 2011. The reasoning
behind this was that Wookie should focus on the provision of a
lightweight library for serving W3C Widgets. This removal was
completed recently with improvements to both the API and the Java
connector that allow admin to be carried out using the API. In other
words it is now possible to write client applications that are
separate form Wookie. We felt this was the best approach since UIs are
unique to individual use cases. All that remains of the UI is a very
small and lightweight interface to facilitate new users getting to
grips with the system.

We have no plans to replace the admin UI, however, we did agree that
providing widgets that could provide necessary admin facilities would
be a good idea. To date it would seem that nobody has had a use case
strong enough to implement any such admin widgets, although there is
some experimental code available. Another alternative would be to
package the old admin UI as a standalone WAR and make any
modifications needed to operate via the API. I'm sure we'd be happy to
carry that as a separate application. Finally, someone may choose to
write a client that would provide access to a running Wookie instance
via the API.

I'm sure you'll find people here willing to help you understand how to
implement a basic widget/war/client application if your need is great
enough to drive you to do so.

Ross
