JServ module from Tomcat ...

Howdy

I have installed Apache 1.3.9 on NT 4. I am trying to integrate Tomcat and
Apache. I am following the instructions from :

http://locus.apache.org/jyve-faq/Turbine/screen/DisplayQuestionAnswer/action/SetAll/project_id/2/faq_id/12/topic_id/43/question_id/225

I now am trying to add the line :

Include C:/Program Files/Apache Group/tomcat/etc/tomcat.conf

to the Apache httpd.conf file. However the problem is that when I try and
start Apache say through the console, the console pops up and then closes -
Apache doesn't run. If I get rid of the line I am trying to add Apache
starts up nicely.

What am I doing wrong?

Terence

To all,

Here are the step by step instructions for getting Jakarta and Apache running on your pc running windows. A bit long winded but worth it.:-) This should be append to the HOWTO doc I suppose.

I am assuming an install of Apache in c:\apachegroup\apache and an install of jakarta in c:\jakarta. Modify paths to reflect your install.

You need 1.3.9 of Apache installed. http://www.apache.org/dist/

Get the binary version of Jakarta (pull down the tomcat.zip file):

http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/tomcat/release/v3.0/

MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE ApacheModuleJServ.dll USING INTERNET EXPLORER NOT NETSCAPE AS IT IS MUCKING WITH THE MIME HEADERS AND CORRUPTING THE DLL!!

http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/tomcat/release/v3.0/win32/

You need to copy the ApacheModuleJServ.dll into the c:\apachegroup\apache\modules directory

You need to modify the c:\apachegroup\apache\conf\httpd.conf file and add the following line at the bottom:

# Include the configuration files needed for jakarta
include "c:\jakarta\tomcat\etc\tomcat.conf"

You need to modify the c:\jakarta\tomcat\etc\tomcat.conf file in the following manner:

# Tell Apache on win32 to load the Apache JServ communication module
#LoadModule jserv_module modules/ApacheModuleJServ.dll <<-- UNCOMMENT THIS LINE

# Tell Apache on Unix to load the Apache JServ communication module
# For shared object builds only!!!
# @LOAD_OR_NOT@LoadModule jserv_module @LIBEXECDIR@/mod_jserv.so
LoadModule jserv_module libexec/mod_jserv.so <<--COMMENT OUT THIS LINE

The default module loading configuration setup is for unix and that just won't work on the windows platform. :-) Hence the commenting out of the mod_jserv.so load and the uncommenting of the DLL load. It should look like this when your done changes highlighted in this color.

###############################################################################
# Apache JServ Configuration File #
###############################################################################

# Note: this file should be appended or included into your httpd.conf

# Tell Apache on win32 to load the Apache JServ communication module
LoadModule jserv_module modules/ApacheModuleJServ.dll

# Tell Apache on Unix to load the Apache JServ communication module
# For shared object builds only!!!
# @LOAD_OR_NOT@LoadModule jserv_module @LIBEXECDIR@/mod_jserv.so
#LoadModule jserv_module libexec/mod_jserv.so

<IfModule mod_jserv.c>
# Do not edit!
ApJServManual on
ApJServDefaultProtocol ajpv12
ApJServSecretKey DISABLED
ApJServMountCopy on
ApJServLogLevel notice

### Change if you run tomcat on a different host
#ApJServDefaultHost localhost
ApJServDefaultPort 8007

#################### All jsp files will go to tomcat ####################
ApJServMount default /root

AddType test/jsp .jsp
AddHandler jserv-servlet .jsp

############################## Context mapping - all requests go to tomcat

ApJServMount /examples /root

############################## Context mapping - you need to "deploy"
# ( copy or ln -s ) the context into htdocs
##

# ApJservMount /CONTEXT/servlet /root
# <Location /CONTEXT/WEB-INF/ >
# AllowOverride None
# deny from all
# </Location>

</IfModule>

You then can use the c:\jakarta\tomcat\startup.bat file to launch jakarta. You can then fire up the apache server and all should be well. Go to http://localhost/examples and you should see the jakarta jsp and servlet examples.

Note if you are using NT and running apache as a service there are further instructions but that is another ball of wax...
