Current the SQL API fails when doing {{COUNT(DISTINCT)}} on a binary field. In our use case we store the UUID as a 16-byte binary string.

While it is possible to work around to do a base64 encoding on the string but it should be relatively straightforward to implement the native solution to gain the optimal speed.
