svn diff requires 5 ssh connections
"svn diff" may require at least 5 ssh connections:

Is there any plan to improve that?
(Note: the "Connected to ..." lines are printed out by my .zshenv

Another option might be to use control connections using ssh

I am not sure if these changes are already available in the portable
openssh tree
(debian testing does not have these changes yet)

I forgot about it. It doesn't work with my configuration (I've
reported the bug, but in the meantime, I can't use it).

You might consider using fsh instead of ssh to get around that.

I think this is just a bit slow as each time it requires an
authentication. I don't know if this is significant.

No, currently RA (repository access) sessions are treated as lightweight
disposable objects. There are no plans underway to redesign that - to do
that would require some Subversion-layer multiplexor - a role which right
now is being happily fulfilled by TCP/IP.
I can see how it might seem a little inelegant... but it's not hindering
your ability to work, is it?
