[OT] Controlling where log4j files get written.

Does anyone know of a platform independent way to specify where the log
files generated with log4j will go?

If I use a relative path in log4j.properties the files end up in
TOMCAT_HOME/bin on a Linux box.  I suspect they will end up elsewhere 
on Windows box when run Tomcat is run as a service.
