[libcloud] Graduation (was [libcloud] Incubator PMC/Board report for August 2010
So following on from the comments in the Incubator report - how are
things going for graduation from incubation to TLP? What do you think
is holding up graduating _now_?
FWIW the Incubator policy on graduation requirements is:
http://incubator.apache.org/incubation/Incubation_Policy.html#Minimum+Graduation+Requirements

One of the ways to tell if a poddling is ready to graduate is to see
if they can get it together to go for graduation without the mentors
doing it for them. So if there are no reasons to hold things up ...
then go for it, whats holding things up?
The diversity question could come up so find the answer, Gavin
suggested an approach, or just ask on the private list who every one
works for.
There needs to be a resolution to vote on with a description of the
project, list of PMC members and a chair, so those need to be got
together, agreed on and a vote held.

I guess I'm unclear on exactly what we're commenting on, ant. I see no
reasons to hold things up at this stage; the project has been moving along
quite speedily since it began. Gavin mentioned a need for diversity of
employment and I think we fulfill that, though I'm unsure how much talent
Cloudkick has gobbled up at this point ;)
Cheers,

Thanks Ant for getting the discussion going.
The page at http://incubator.apache.org/projects/libcloud.html needs to be
brought
up to date -- we know Incubator PMC members are sticklers for ensuring that
is
upto date. We are missing two committers from that page, we have nine (9)
committers
not seven as listed.
Following on from that, we need to demonstrate that those nine committers
represent
a diverse community and that there is sufficient deviation from one
employer. To that
end, we need written down somewhere who works for whom - or if not getting
paid to
work on LibCloud, then they can just state 'independent' , I suggest using
the page
above to mark in braces next to the name this affiliation (which can be
removed after
graduation), thoughts?
Other than that, I don't see a 'technical' reason not to graduate, nor do I
see an
'Apache Way' issue. The project is healthy and moving along at a steady
pace.
I would like to pay close attention to a 0.4 release, see how many of the
committers
get involved in the whole process of making that happen, fix the minor
documentation
issues we have then make a vote to graduate.
