[D] IMPORT functionnality in command line [superset]
GitHub user ARTISnetDev created a discussion: IMPORT functionnality in command line
When we import a dashboard file in command line, we can't override. No command line options are available to force to override it :
>superset import-dashboards --help
>Loaded your LOCAL configuration at [superset_config.py]
>Usage: superset import-dashboards [OPTIONS]
>
> Import dashboards from ZIP file
>
>Options:
> -p, --path TEXT Path to a single ZIP file [required]
> -u, --username TEXT Specify the user name to assign dashboards to
> [required]
> --help Show this message and exit.
In manual mode we can :

This is a known limitation of the CLI dashboard import in Superset. When you import a dashboard ZIP via CLI, child objects like charts and datasets are upgraded or added if present, but for dataset children (columns and metrics), the import only updates or appends what's in the ZIP—it does not remove any columns or metrics that were deleted upstream. So, if you deleted a column or metric in your source and re-import, the old ones remain unless you manually delete them or use a YAML import with sync options like `sync_columns` or `sync_metrics` for full synchronization. This is why deleting everything before import is sometimes necessary for a clean upgrade. Full sync/removal is only supported via YAML/REST/UI imports, not ZIP CLI imports. [See source](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/commands/dataset/importers/v0.py)
Also, a recent fix addressed issues with chart ID references for cross filter scoping during dashboard import, which could affect chart upgrades—if you use cross filters, make sure you're on a version with this fix. [See PR #34418](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/34418)

When you use the `superset import-dashboards` CLI command, it always overwrites existing dashboards with matching UUIDs—there is no CLI flag, environment variable, or hidden config to control this behavior. The overwrite is hardcoded in the CLI implementation, so you don't need to specify an option to force it; the CLI import will always replace existing dashboards without prompting for confirmation, unlike the manual UI import which asks for confirmation before overwriting. Other import commands (like `import_directory`) do have an `--overwrite` flag, but this does not apply to dashboard ZIP imports via the CLI.
