HELO
All,
When I send an email to a recipient from james, I get an error message
as shown below. The offending line is:
504 5.5.2 <[server name omitted]>: Helo command rejected: need
fully-qualified hostname
Does anyone know if the HELO error is on my mail server or on the
recipient's server?
Mark

Hi. This is the James mail server at orangemafia.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
Below I include the list of recipients and the reason why I was unable
to deliver your message.
Failed recipient(s):
[Email omitted]
Error message:
504 5.5.2 <[server name omitted]>: Helo command rejected: need
fully-qualified hostname

Everyone,
Thanks for your help on this thread. I've verified now from my user
that HELO is working with the fully qualified helloName.
I think that this board is awesome and so helpful. Thank you.

BTW, you should get sure that your fully-qualified hostname has a valid
PTR-Record.
Just my 2 cent ;-)

Try uncommenting this configuration in RemoteDelivery configuration:
<mail.smtp.localhost>myMailServer</mail.smtp.localhost>
Replace myMailServer with the fully qualified public name of your server.
Stefano
PS: the error you see is an error that another server sent in reply to
JAMES while JAMES was deliverying your mail. After the failure JAMES
sent you the error message you quoted, quoting the remote server.

Re: HELO
Posted by Michael Baehr <co...@googlemail.com>.
Hi Mark,
It's on your mail server.
Had the same problem some days ago. After changing the name for HELO to
the fully quallified hostname of my mailserver (e.g. mail.myserver.com),
I was able to send emails to the server that rejected them before.
Hope that helps
Michael
