In the Apache Sling project we recently moved from associating users to roles to associating groups to roles. However, it seems that at least one committer was not part of the group we expect him to be.

In my case, the Jira group was sling-developers and I found multiple developers missing from it, e.g. sseifert@pro-vision.de ( committer ) , egli ( PMC member). It seems to happen when the Jira username !=  LDAP username, but it's just a hunch.

I can't verify the group membership anywhere so my question is - how is this group populated? I would like to make sure that all committers are part of it.
