Summary of changes:
- this test file used to have one mega method, testCheckpoint, which covered many different cases. When it failed, it was difficult to trace what each part of the method was testing. Split this megamethod up into about 10 or so different cases
- changed around testStartup to be several cases on its own, that exercise directory locking more explicitly
- many of the tests now run with 0 datanodes instead of 3, so they should also run faster.
- had to make some small changes in Storage for the sake of the tests - fairly trivial ones, though.
