Extending & Changing Tapestry's HTML Template Selection Strategy
I am somewhat new to Tapestry and am looking to use it for an multi-site web application project. By "multi-site" I mean that I want to take the same basic site elements (i.e., page structure, navigation, content retrieval, dynamic/interactive elements, etc.) and simply "re-skin" them for multiple logical websites, which each have their own distinct look & feel and layout. Obviously we're looking to squeeze a lot of reuse out of our codebase, making Tapestry an excellent candidate.
I am looking for ways to extend/redefine the way Tapestry determines which HTML template should be applied to a given component or page, based on properties of the request and visit. By doing this I would hope to acheive some of the following:
- the strategy would dynamically resolve to the right template to be applied for a given page request (e.g., /XYZ/XYZ-home.html for a logical site "XYZ"), based on the logical site defined for the Visit
- fallback to an appropriate generic or common template if a site-specific variant is not found
- dynamically associate different HTML templates to the same generic underlying component specification (as we understand it, by default a component specification seems to be tied 1-to-1 with a single HTML template)
- have generic linking conventions which are dynamically mapped to the correct underlying page templates (i.e., linking to page "/search" for site "XYZ" from external links or using internal Tapestry PageLinks resolves to "/XYZ/XYZ-search.html"
I would appreciate any help, suggestions and guidance on how I could go about implementing this template-resolution strategy within Tapestry. Pointers to the right spots in the codebase & Javadoc are also much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
