navigation arrows

Hi,

 

This is a follow up to an earlier post.

 

Is it possible to implement navigation arrows in a canvas placed in the
North, south, east and west of an svg image respectively? When the
user clicks on an arrow, it pans the image depending on the direction
of the arrow. Could this be implemented by overlays? I assume much
work in Graphics2D will be done.
 
Any ideas?
