whitelist_from ignored

Hi All,

I have the following problem (and it only occurs since I mistakenly upgraded spamassassin in Debian unstable and overwrote the config...)

I run spamassassin 3.0.2 as user spamfilter,

the command is:
 /usr/sbin/spamd --create-prefs --max-children 5 --helper-home-dir -u spamfilter --nouser-config -d --pidfile=/var/run/spamd.pid

I keep my whitelist_from lines in
/home/spamfilter/.spamassassin/user_prefs

the file is read successfully:
spamfilter@myhost:~/.spamassassin$ spamassassin -D --lint :
debug: SpamAssassin version 3.0.2
...
debug: using "/etc/spamassassin" for site rules dir
debug: config: read file /etc/spamassassin/local.cf

debug: subtests=__HAS_MSGID,__MSGID_OK_DIGITS,__MSGID_OK_HOST,__SANE_MSGID,__UNUSABLE_MSGID

but the whitelists configured in user_prefs are ignored, I cannot find USER_IN_WHITELIST in my mail headers and a score of -100 is not applied (this worked until I upgraded...).

I don't use user-configs, but keep everything together in the spamfilter account's spamassassin dir.

Any ideas how to re-activate the whitelists?

System: Debian unstable, SA scores all default

Thanks in advance,
Sven

Hi Matt,

thanks for the reply!

I changed the defaults to
/usr/sbin/spamd --create-prefs --max-children 5 --helper-home-dir -u spamfilter -d --pidfile=/var/run/spamd.pid
(removed nouser-config option) - and now it works again.

Looks like if wanting to use user whitelists, one needs to either store them in /etc/spamassassin/local.cf or - even if run as a dedicated user - you cannot switch off the nouser-config option.

That's a bit strange to me to be honest, especially as --lint shows that user_prefs of the user spamfilter is parsed...

Anyway, thanks for your help,
Sven

OK, the -D --lint looks fine.. Have you tried feeding SA a message that
should match in debug mode?

         spamassassin -D <test_message.txt

Hack up a copy of the sample-nonspam.txt that comes with SA if you have no
other source of email as a text file...
