Error when compile guacamole-server-1.5.3
Hello all,
I'm trying to upgrade from Guacamole 1.5.2 to Guacamole 1.5.3 but I got
this error during make:
make[2]: uscita dalla directory «/tmp/guacamole-server-1.5.3/src/guacd»
Making all in src/guacenc
make[2]: ingresso nella directory «/tmp/guacamole-server-1.5.3/src/guacenc»

it's a standalone installation on a dedicated VM Debian 12, I've
upgraded right now from D11 to D12 and now I'm going to upgrade
Guacamole too, this is not my first guacamole 1.5.3 on a Debian 12, but
this is the first time I see this error.
Can someone help me please?

You're running into this issue:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GUACAMOLE-1714
Which has been fixed in the Github code for Guacamole Server, but has
not been released, yet (it is targeted for 1.6.0). You can do one of a
few things to get it compiled:
* Disable guacenc during the build process if you don't need it.
* Apply the patch from the pull request(s) that fixed this issue
(https://github.com/apache/guacamole-server/pull/399) and recompile.
* Check out the master branch of guacamole-server from Github and build/compile.

Hello Adrian,
Debian 12 runs Tomcat 10 but I have Tomcat9 on it, but anyway, Tomcat is
not related to my compile issue also because right now is stopped.

I've checked user's running Guacamole and was not the right one, I've

Looks like gucd is trying to read "/". Maybe you renamed the gucd parameter file to "/"?

seems to be something related to M$ side because if I RDP into a Linux
Box it works w/out issues.

sure, I have done!
I had tried all possible configuration regards auth section, but
nothings works! The stranger thing is that it was working w/out any
issue till a month ago (or maybe also later, but I do not have any
clue), I have also try to rollback to a previouse working state
(snapshots is the way!) but still not working, but only on M$ systems,
on Linux RDP works great so I think that RDP in Guacamole works
properly, the issue came from M$ side.
In my setup I have also username & password set with vars
(${GUAC_USERNAME}/${GUAC_PASSWORD}); I have also try with a fresh new VM
with W11 PRO but also there I can't login via RDP.
I'm still diggin down to try to find the root cause.

Hi Alessandro,
have you tried to force NLA in the Security mode field (Authentication section) of the connection settings?
I am using Guacamole 1.4.0, it was the only way to get Guacamole connect to the Windows Servers we manage.
All the other fields of "Authentication" settings are empty, except for the "Ignore server certificate" that is set.

maybe something as changed from Windows side; today I have install a

Can you post the logs from guacd when the RDP connection fails, and
bump the log level for guacd up to debug?

With ignore certificate set, and either nothing or 'any' in security
mode, have you tried with 'disable authentication' checked?
Also, when fault-finding, I suggest you don't have anything else set, at
least initially, as I've sometimes found that can adversely affect the
outcome. I include user/pass etc with this caveat, as well as all the
other settings.

Windows OS, if I RDP on Linux boxes (XRDP) it works w/out any issue on
both Debian 11/Guacamole 1.5.2 and Debian 12/Guacamole 1.5.3.
I've to debug why it stop working on Windows, from LOG seems to be
something related to security protocol, but I have selected "Any" and
checked "Ignor server certificate" as usual, I don't know why it stop
working.

it's a win, now it compile and ATM is up and running!
But I can't RDPing into any Server (Windows Server with RDP running,
tested using Windows Client).
