[jira] [Created] (KAFKA-21318) invertedTargetAssignment invalid for share groups

Sean Quah created KAFKA-21318:
---------------------------------

Summary: invertedTargetAssignment invalid for share groups
                 Key: KAFKA-21318
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-21318
             Project: Kafka
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: group-coordinator
            Reporter: Sean Quah
            Assignee: Sean Quah

In the group coordinator, we maintain `invertedTargetAssignment` for each group as a map of partitions to owning member ids. Then in the assignor `GroupSpec`, we use it to answer `isPartitionAssigned` queries.

Share groups can assign the same partition to multiple members, which breaks tracking of `invertedTargetAssignment`. eg. When a share group member leaves, its assigned partitions can be cleared in `invertedTargetAssignment` and then `isPartitionAssigned` will return `false` for those partitions even when other members still have them assigned.
