Can't get past "Waiting for builtin templates to load..." when initially building my cloud

Hi:

I am attempting CloudStack Basic Installation (3.0.1) for the
first time.

The CloudStack Management Server is running Centos 6.2.

The Hypervisor is XenServer 6.0.2. The XenServer installation
includes the two hotfixes for 6.0.2 and the CloudStack XenServer
Support Package (CSP).

My network is currently the CloudStack Management Server and
the XenServer.

>From XenCenter 6.0, I can see that xenserver1-cs has s-1-VM and
v-2-VM. Both with green arrow heads.

I started the cloud provisioning from the GUI.

However, for the last 1.5 hours, the "Now building your cloud ..." window
is stuck on "Waiting for builtin templates to load...". The launch process
doesn't appear to be finished.

How do I get the initial launch of cloud provisioning to finish?

There is constant activity in these four log files in
/var/log/cloud/management:
  api-server.log
  management-server.log
  access_log.2012-06-01.txt
  catalina.out
However, I don't know what is important to provide to you to help
solve this problem.

Thanks for any help,

Evan Miller

Hi ,

I have been facing the same problem numerous number of times in the recent past but realized that this problem was perhaps due to the fact that the SSVM is not able to ping the management server ( it was taking a private IP by default) . If you check the logs and find a statement similar to this - " There is no secondary storage VM for secondary storage host nfs://172.17.1.2/export/secondary " , so that means your management server is not getting pinged from the SSVM. In that case if you manually change the management server IP to a public IP and open the port ((UPDATE configuration SET value='public IP' WHERE name LIKE 'host') of MS in database configuration table ), SSVM is able to ping the MS and built-in template is downloaded successfully else the timer just keeps on blinking on again and again. (NOTE - My MS was running on a oracle Vbox so it was taking a private IP by default)

To check the SSVM health , you might want to check the SSVM health by running this script - ./usr/local/cloud/systemvm/ssvm-check.sh

If you get the output as shown below - First DNS server is 10.103.128.15

The prerelease drafts page that Rajesh linked to was only for WIP drafts,

Re: debian in cloudstack with xenserver

Posted by Ahmad Emneina <Ah...@citrix.com>.
I personally don¹t use debian OS's but I believe what works is to install
it on a xenserver, not controlled by CloudStack, via xencenter. Then
locate the VHD and import that into cloudstack, selecting the correct
corresponding OS type, via the template creation dialog.

The reason vm failed to start - we couldn't create a deployment for it. It
means that the system initially lacked storage capacity, cpu/ram capacity;
or vm simply failed to start on the backend, and we couldn't locate
another host to start vm on.

The log fragment listed in email doesn't have this info, there is a timing
gap between 16:33 and 16:36:

2012-06-04 16:33:19,272 DEBUG [cloud.storage.StorageManagerImpl]

Did you remove this part of the log manually? If so, please do grep by
job-202 to get the info about the deployment failure.

Create a snapshot from the root volume of this vm and then a template from this snapshot and then you can light vm's from them.
I would advise you giving admin guide a read to find out many useful features (and their working) in CS.

Can you check if the install ISO is still mounted to the VM? If it is,
detach it, reboot and check if you boot into your previously installed OS.

Please do not delete them. The entries are created for a purpose.
You can create your own security groups by installing supplementary pack for xenserver.

iptables rules in hypervisor

Posted by Jewel Nuruddin <je...@yahoo.com>.
Hi All,

I use citrix xenserver as my hypervisor with CloudStack.
After run xenserver and adding this as host in my cluster and create guest vm by CloudStack
I found lots of iptables rules run in this xenserver, my concern is,
do I need to keep those iptables rules?
or I can flush those rules?
How about create my own rules?

Please some give some comments on this.

Thanks
Jewel

To know the issue exactly, please share your log file. Sometimes the download may timeout or your internet connection would be slow to download the template from cloud.com.
Are you using the in-built templates or modified the template download location.
