Cleaning up filesystem

So, I was wondering how I can 'clean-up' the hadoop mapreduce
directory.  There is over 8 gigs of data in there from past failed
jobs and such. How do I get rid of that stuff without interrupting the
rest of the system?

The deployment is currently local.  Any ideas?
