   **Is your feature request related to a problem or challenge? Please describe what you are trying to do.**
   The parquet format has been updates to include types such as Variant and Geometry
   
   The parquet format is defined by thrift files that come from this repo https://github.com/apache/parquet-format and then the parquet repo contains auto-generated rust code to parse and serialize/deserialize those structures. 
   
   We are currently behind on the definition -- it would be great if we could update to the latest parquet-format

   **Describe alternatives you've considered**
   
   1. Update the revision in [regen.sh](https://github.com/apache/arrow-rs/blob/main/parquet/regen.sh)
   2. Run `regen.sh`
   3. Resolve any compilation errors
   4. Check in the result
   
   This PR from @etseidl has an example of how to do this:

   **Additional context**
   This will be a breaking API change so we will need to wait for the next major release 
   - #7395 
   
   However getting it ready would be good

   I would love to get the total order PR (https://github.com/apache/parquet-format/pull/221) merged into the format before the next major release, but that may be wishful thinking.
   
   In any event, I can take this on once it's open season on 56.0.0.
