Event stream to RTF?

Is there a Xalan2 object to which I can send a series of events
(startElement(), characters(), endElement(), etc.) and get back a
DocumentFragment when I'm done? I'd like to do this in an extension
function and return the DocumentFragment as an RTF.

I'm happy to use XRTreeFrag or some other object as long as I can send
it back to the XSL processor as a RTF.
