I have a partition dc=example,dc=com
In there I have ou=import
And even deeper there is ou=users and ou=groups
If I want to search a group via quicksearch and click on ou=groups and fill in cn=foo it finds nothing
If I do the quicksearch from ou=import with subtree enabled, it finds objects
But I only want to search underneath ou=groups
Further more, the first quicksearch after starting results in an empty resut, but I can see e.g. (5+) besides ou=groups (5 being the number of expected results)

Description:

Here the current implementation of the "Quick Search" menu item in the context:
- without any existing quick search, it will create a new one with the Root DSE (empty string "") as base
- when an existing quick search is found, it will reuse it.
At the moment, it doesn't use the current entry selection in the Browser view.
It might be more useful, indeed, to reuse this selection (in the case of a single entry - no search, no bookmark, etc.) in the quick search window.

Ok, the real problem seems to be the folding.
As long as the number of loaded items (click on ou=groups and hit F5) is less than the threshold for folding, the quick search works fine (with the selected base) and it's item appears inline. If however, there are too many items, and it is folding, the quick search item doesn't get displayed.

Indeed, great find.
I had opened a separate issue on the usability idea:
DIRSTUDIO-828 (The Quick Search context menu item could reuse the currently selected entry in the Browser view as search base).
I'm working on a fix to this "folding" issue right now.

In fact, the GUI does not "remeber" the base DN when you do a quick search. It should...
