Recommended Way to Add template

Hello All,

I usually create a new compute template on another XCP server, export and import the disk. This works fine, but as you can imagine, it has extra steps.

How does everyone else do this? Do you create the VM in CS as an Admin and convert?

Limits shown apply for logged in account or project.

Hello Murilo,

If I understand correctly you want to restrict capacity from domain limits
instead of account limits?
As far as I know cloudstack uses the limit that is more limiting, so
account limits are set to unlimited you can do restriction just from domain
limits settings.

Jordan

Hi Jordan!

Today I can apply resource limitation per domain. The problem is that the
initial dashboard shows as if the user had unlimited resources (instead of
showing the limits configured for their domain).

Resource usage vs allocation in home dashboard (v4.18.2.2)

Hello everyone,

Is there any parameter so that compute and storage cards (among all others
that involve resource limits) to respect and show the limits defined for a
domain instead of bringing the user's own limit data?

Hi Marty,

I usually use distro-vendor provided cloud-init templates [1] as I'm using KVM based infra (the .img/qcow2 works out of the box). Otherwise, for other hypervisors I either convert them to vhd or vmdk/ova; or create an instance in CloudStack using ISO, enable cloud-init or cloudbase-init (windows), and shutdown the VM and export/convert the root disk of the VM as a template.

Hello All,

I usually create a new compute template on another XCP server, export and import the disk. This works fine, but as you can imagine, it has extra steps.

How does everyone else do this? Do you create the VM in CS as an Admin and convert?

Hello Marty,

Indeed we create the vms on CS from ISO and then convert. So far I have not
found another way.
I know there is a cloudstack module for Packer
https://developer.hashicorp.com/packer/integrations/hashicorp/cloudstack/latest/components/builder/cloudstack
but I have not tried it.

Best regards,
Jordan
