Greg, one more nitpick:

I think the reloadCurrencyConfig could be improved:
# It seems to use resource loader to read in the xml file into a String line-by-line, but then concats all these lines and converts back into a bytearray, just to get an input stream.
# It uses a charset of "UTF8" (should be "UTF-8").

I think easier/safer would be to just get an InputStream directly from the resource loader (ResourceLoader.openResource) without this encoding conversion.
