[jira] [Commented] (TS-2728) the lib/perl Makefile.am does not properly detect out-of-source builds

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TS-2728?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13973763#comment-13973763 ]

James Peach commented on TS-2728:
---------------------------------

All the jenkins builds are out of tree, as well as {{ci/regression}} builds. So out of tree doesn't seem like it's broken in all cases. The only case that I'm aware of is that Makefile.PL in generated to be system-specific, so if you do a build, the resulting source tree cannot be used with a different system unless there is an intervening {{make distclean}}.

> It seems that the out-of-source builds for our Perl modules is somewhat confused. I think the tests are not correct, such that we try to cp the source tree even when we're doing an in-source build (which then makes cp complain that source and destination is the same).
