Do you need all those millions of documents in the same repository, or
will they be spread across multiple repositories?

This list is probably the best place to ask for commercial support,
right now.

To clarify, I decided to work on the SQL backend because I believe that
BDB will not handle a 100GB DB no matter how the data is distributed. I
have 100GB and I'm not even versioning the data. It's not in
Subversion. It's currently spread across two samba servers.

SQL will of course bring other coolness along the way. And Pain:-)

Can I be a pain and ask how would you need to set this up to be able to use
SVN, i.e how much data can a svn repository safely handle (roughly cause it
must vary) ? I do recall Greg mentioning : "we have over 100GB of data in
two Samba file systems (un-versioned)" :-)

Well, that depends how many documents per repository on average, and
how big they are :-).

Some people are using Subversion on some mighty big datasets, though;
you might want to check out:

Sorry that wasn't mean as M$ bashing I was just referring to people new to
the idea of open source. I do realise there is at least one *esteemed*
member among your ranks who used to work for M$. I used to work corporate
myself and now we just contract to them ;-)

Lol ... nicely put and understood

At this stage I'll say that commercial support *may* be available and make a
new post if something comes of it. I don't want to waste your guys time ...

Btw, Will SVN handle that load if they were to use multiple repositories?

Careful with the M$-bashing -- there are plenty of Subversion
developers & users either at Microsoft or formerly at Microsoft :-).

Well, if you can get someone to offer you commercial support, then you
can say commercial support is offered. This list is a good place to
find such a person. (I can't do it, already have a job, thanks.)

You might want to make a separate post whose subject is something like
"Commercial SVN support sought".

Hi Karl,

Thanks for your response :-)

I can't see any reason that they would have any problem with multiple
respositories :-)

Firstly my apologies for the lame corporate question, this isn't my style
but you know those real conservative types who haved used M$ all their life.
Also this is entirely what if, because I've already told all my friends that
SVN is the best thing since marmite (little kiwi joke ;-)) and he obviously
does think SVN is mature. Hence the situation. So anyway sometime these
anal corporate types want somebody to *guarantee* that a product is going to
work beyond the people who set the system up, eg the actual developers
(being you'all). So the question is a general one, rather than a specific
one as yet. So given a situation where somebody wanted to pay you guys for
commercial support, would you accept? Can I spout as one of my reasons for
going with SVN is that "commerical support" is offered?

Hope that is clear, I've had very little sleep last night ... got a newborn
;-)

Awesome and thanks,
Z.
