[jira] Created: (INFRA-2277) bugzilla.spamassassin.org sends email but not does accept return email

bugzilla.spamassassin.org sends email but not does accept return email
----------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: INFRA-2277
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-2277
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Bug
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: Bugzilla
            Reporter: Simon Arlott

140.211.11.140 (brutus.apache.org) attempts to send email from bugzilla-daemon@bugzilla.spamassassin.org, but it does not accept return email to this address:
 220 brutus.apache.org ESMTP Postfix (Ubuntu)
 MAIL FROM:<>
 250 2.1.0 Ok
 RCPT TO:<bu...@bugzilla.spamassassin.org>
554 5.7.1 <proxima.lp0.eu[81.2.80.65]>: Client host rejected: Access denied

This makes it difficult to register with the SpamAssassin bugzilla, or receive email from it.

[jira] Resolved: (INFRA-2277) bugzilla.spamassassin.org sends email but not does accept return email

Posted by "Mark Thomas (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Mark Thomas resolved INFRA-2277.
--------------------------------

    Resolution: Won't Fix

Yes, if your mail server attempts to validate the senders address then that will fail.

We don't want folks sending e-mail to the address the BZ sends it from so this is a deliberate configuration decision.

The work-around is to white list the senders address.

[jira] Reopened: (INFRA-2277) bugzilla.spamassassin.org sends email but not does accept return email

Posted by "Simon Arlott (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Simon Arlott reopened INFRA-2277:
---------------------------------

Why not use the null sender address instead?

If you never handle repeated permanent delivery failures then surely bugzilla will gain a lot of invalid addresses that it will continue to attempt to email?
