Please try to fix this and save people like me (who had to learn the hard way)
oodles of time and energy.  I have spent all my spare time during the last week
and a half trying to make this work, and getting incredibly frustrated in the
process, thinking that I was missing something or doing something wrong.  I
didn't expect there to be an unresolved issue - especially now that I see it
has been known about for some time.

My inquiries have also wasted the time of some kind and helpful people trying
to solve my problems for me, to no avail.

If you don't plan to fix it, will you please add to the "help" info. the fact
that changing the text orientation in part of a table is not possible?
