[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-3333) [Bug 247416] consider adding the "Editor TODO Highlighting" plugin to the release version of NetBeans

Alex O'Ree created NETBEANS-3333:
------------------------------------

Summary: [Bug 247416] consider adding the "Editor TODO Highlighting" plugin to the release version of NetBeans
                 Key: NETBEANS-3333
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-3333
             Project: NetBeans
          Issue Type: Improvement
Components: editor - Painting & Printing
            Reporter: Alex O'Ree

From the original ticket, [https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=247416]

Please consider making the TODO syntax highlighter available again. I know it was in the oracle code base but i am not sure if it ever made it to apache.

General need statement: it is very handy to highlight documentation lines that start with FIXME, TODO, HACK, etc in a different color than normal documentation colors. When it red or in another user defined color, it can quickly help highlight TODO items in source code when scrolling. The action list is helpful too, but not everyone uses it.

Basic requirements:
* settings panel for defined which keywords/patterns to highlight and a color picker for them. It may be useful to have separate controls for different programming languages but it's probably not a hard requirement
* when painting the editor, if the line is a documentation line and one of the keywords is present, paint the whole line with the designated color.

all of this was already implemented in the oracle base. if it was donated, then this becomes a trivial process.

For what its worth, the old plugin still works, however the download for it no longer exists publicly.
