I added two screen shot movs showing how to reproduce. One shows Starting Netbeans with two projects in the Projects view. The second one shows starting Netbeans after I deleted directory 12.1 from Library/Application Support/Netbeans . The projects view is empty but it is not possible to create any new project.
The results from the terminal commands are:
{{SV1:bin bartkampers$ /usr/libexec/java_home --version 1.8+}}
{{/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-15.jdk/Contents/Home}}
{{SV1:bin bartkampers$ /usr/libexec/java_home}}
