Re: An Issue
Hello,
I downloaded and installed Open Office and it was installing fine until it
started to install the Microsoft Visual C++ and then it wasn't responding
and I couldn't get out of it and it affected my antivirus which wouldn't
work anymore. I ended up doing a system restore to rectify the situation.
Does Open Office need Microsoft Visual C++
I really want to use Open Office but is it compatible with Windows 8.1 and
is there a certain procedure of how it should it be installed?
Thanks,
Grace

It works quite well, but you must send your "unsubscribe request" from the
same E mail account which you utilized to initially sign in, and, as noted
by another contributor, you must confirm the "unsubscribe request" as
requested by the robot which runs the subscribe / unsubscribe function.
You're welcome.
Have a great day.

I believe that the list server sends you a confirmation message with
instructions that you must follow (I don´t remember if it is to click on a
link, or to reply to such confirmation message, or perhaps both options are
included).
This is to prevent someone else from sending an unsubscription request
under your email address and unsubscribing you without your knowledge. (the
same procedure applies to subscription requests, and for the same reason).

It´s a mailing list -also called listserv-, not a "group email".

I kinda find it funny that people nowadays seem to join a mailing list,
then get annoyed that they "get a lot of emails" and ask to get out. Well,
gee, mailing lists are supposed to work like that.
To cope with the volume of email -depending on email clients used-, you can
create a filter to have mailing lists messages moved automatically to a
subfolder inside your INBOX, not clutter your inbox main view.
And you´re not supposed to read ALL messages anyway, just browse the
discussion subjects and click on anything that interests you -if you think
you can reply to someone else´s question, as I did here-.
In any case, unsubscription information is described here

Hope this helps,

Apache OpenOffice does ship with the MS Visual C++ runtime libraries, and
those are installed during AOO install.

You are right, however, about Windows Installer getting into trouble
sometimes if you try to install several apps at once.

No, however, one thing I learned a long time ago, was to only install
one app at a time in Windows. Start one, let it finish, then the next,

It doesn't install Microsoft Visual C+++ (which is a compiler/IDE), it just
installs the VC++ RUNTIME libraries, which is a small set of DLLs needed by
any program developed with MS Visual C++.
As described in:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2977003
About Visual C++ Redistributable Packages
"Visual C++ Redistributable Packages install runtime components of Visual
C++ Libraries on a computer that does not have Visual C++ installed. The
libraries are required to run applications that are developed by using the
corresponding version of Visual C++."
http://searchsoftwarequality.techtarget.com/definition/runtime
" In some programming languages, certain reusable programs or "routines"
are built and packaged as a "runtime library." These routines can be linked
to and used by any program when it is running."
