[jira] [Created] (GEODE-3627) User Guide: Clarify Cluster Configuration Service vs XML config

Dave Barnes created GEODE-3627:
----------------------------------

Summary: User Guide: Clarify Cluster Configuration Service vs XML config
                 Key: GEODE-3627
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GEODE-3627
             Project: Geode
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: docs
            Reporter: Dave Barnes

The user guide section "Configuring and Running a Cluster" (http://geode.apache.org/docs/guide/12/configuring/chapter_overview.html) presents the cluster configuration service as the preferred method for configuring a distributed system, which is good, but it sounds as if it cooperates with XML configuration. In practical usage, the two are mutually exclusive.
The section should be rewritten to clarify the mutual exclusivity of the two configuration schemes, and examples should present gfsh command-line options (which the cluster config service understands) as the first choice rather than cache.xml or *.properties entries for setting individual parameters.
Other sections of the guide will be affected, as well.
