trouble building turbine 2.3

I'm trying to get a system to build turbine_2.3 so I can _hopefully_ start
contributing to the project as well.

I started with a completely fresh build environment but 2.3 refuses to
compile.

I was reading through the mail archives and I'm attempting to put together
a startup environment for turbine 2.3 and not sure which branch to pull
from (or which tag)

The only branch from cvs that seems to compile for me is TURBINE_2_2_0
I'm guessing that this came after TURBINE_2_2_RC2 (let me know if that is
wrong)

I'm trying to nail this down, please make corrections if I have this wrong

my environment:

	redhat 9

	[painter@utena painter]$ java -version
	java version "1.4.2_02"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_02-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_02-b03, mixed mode)

	maven v. 1.0-rc1-SNAPSHOT

	[painter@utena painter]$ ant -version
Apache Ant version 1.5.3 compiled on April 9 2003

I think most of my build errors are all looking like the same problem.

generate-om:

I'm getting basically the same error on each tag and branch in the 2.3

I am very close already.. the tr.props is my only hang up at the moment..
I did have some pages rendering for a minute and then lost it again... ;)
I will get it with some more hacking

I need to remember to keep looking at that document. I've read it several
times before

I found the maven turbine plugin on the turbine site and will look at
integrating it into the tdk-2.3 tomorrow

thanks all

I think Eric Pugh has done the most recent work on this but you would
need to check the mail archive to find out what it was.

I got it all working and built my turbine-2.3.1.jar

Now I have been taking tomcat 4.1.29 and trying to reconstruct a new
tdk-2.3 (I know maven is going to be the future build method, but for most
users who started with turbine they are familiar with the tdk)

I have gotten pretty far in the past couple hours after figuring out all
the new jars I have to have and I have a newapp being built out of the tdk
into my webapps folder using the old ant build method.

Now I am trying to rework the TurbineResource.properties from the
tdk-2.2_01 so that it will work out of the box with tdk-2.3

I read through everything dealing with switching over to
VelocityOnlyLayout and I'm trying to get the sample app to build correctly
now using this method.

I am at a stand still at the moment though as I keep getting Layout -
Default cannot be found and I have gone through this thing several times
now ... yuck and I'm getting tired...

here is my exception

Why is it looking for o.a.t.modules.pages.Default instead of my definition
of VelocityPage?

	services.VelocityService.default.page=VelocityPage

ok... i need a break. I've spent about 6 hours on this :) If I can get it
all working nicely, I would like to contribute this back as the tdk-2.3

I know Henning said he had a nice maven.xml to help put together a new
project as well, so it would be nice to switch the tdk over to a maven
build system and get it up to 2.3 for new users who keep coming over to
the website and see the latest build is 2.3 and the best way to get
started is download the tdk, but the tdk is 2.2....

Hopefully I can help out here.
