Actually there's an even gentler defintion (which, frankly, was what I had 
assumed the original poster might've meant) - take this definition (from 
dictionary.com):

"a partsong in which voices follow each other; one voice starts and others 
join in one after another until all are singing different parts of the 
song at the same time". Certainly this discussion could be thought of 
different parts of the same song..:)
