[m2] httpclient doesn't refer to dependencies
I'm writing a project that uses httpclient and I've noticed that the
pom.xml file doesn't contain a dependencies section. Since it uses
commons-logging for example, my app fails with a
NoClassDefFoundError. I checked three other components in the same
directory at random and noticed that they don't declare any
dependencies in their poms either. Obviously it will be a right pain
to set up Eclipse so I'm hoping somebody can point out something
simple I've missed.
The pom.xml url is http://www.ibiblio.org/maven2/commons-httpclient/
commons-httpclient/3.0-rc3/commons-httpclient-3.0-rc3.pom
Thanks

I agree that the issue belongs in MEV, but we still need to ping the
httpclient people to take action. In the past, I've done this by
emailing the dev@ list for the project, and asking them to take a look
at the MEV, so that users can access their project from maven.
We're trying to square away our upload/submission process, and we do
have a policy in place for maven 1. However, the requirements - most
notably, on project metadata - for maven 2 are more stringent.
Currently, we're performing an automated conversion of the maven 1
repository to try to provide a starting point for improving things out
there. Admittedly, this conversion is rough at best, largely because of
things like active components of m1 poms (driven by project.properties,
for example), entities, and other junk that worked fine in the lax
environment of m1. Cleaning this up will take effort on all fronts, and
that means putting pressure on projects to help us provide a conduit for
reuse of their project.
Yeah, sorry for the confusion. I think in general we *are* trying to
track these things in jira/MEV, since it's centralized. We just need
help in running down the resulting MEV issues, and getting the correct
information to fix them.
Thanks,
John

Unfortunately, the quality of the repository is somewhat in the hands of
