Attaching a patch heavily based on the code originally developed by [~natty] https://github.com/cloudera/cdh-twitter-example/blob/master/flume-sources/src/main/java/com/cloudera/flume/source/TwitterSource.java

And since then hacked upon by [~whoschek], [~mackrorysd] and yours truly.
