You are running jdk1.4, right? You need to put xerces/xalan into <jre-home>/lib/endorsed and restart.

alternatively you could add
-Djava.endorsed.dirs=<xindice_home>/java/lib in your config/vm.cfg

thanks john, for your answer, but i am NOT using jdk1.4. i am using
JDK1.3.1.
so what should i do now?
