[jira] Updated: (AXIS-1835) Create an Eclipse update manager site for Axis

Jeff Liu updated AXIS-1835:
---------------------------

    Attachment: patch.zip

Hi Davanum,

Sorry, this took so long. I created a new directory under /ws-axis/java/eclipse. This directory has seven things in it:

1. The Axis update site
2. Axis 1.1 plugin
3. Axis 1.1 feature
4. Axis 1.2 plugin
5. Axis 1.2 feature
6. WSIL4J plugin
7. WSIL4J feature

I also modified the /ws-axis/java/build.xml script to show you how to build the Axis update site (see the ANT target at the very bottom). I have a few follow-on questions for you:

1. Since the update site is not going to change very often (maybe per release or release candidate build), I assume the update site will not be run as part of the daily build, correct?

2. The update site needs to be hosted on a Web server, so is the "copy over to the Web server" part going to done manually?

3. WSIL4J is still part of Axis, correct? Reason I ask is because WSIL4J is needed by the Eclipse Web Tools Platform project.

4. In the patch that I sent you, wsil4j.jar is already built (under the /ws-axis/java/eclipse/org.apache.wsil4j/lib directory). I was wondering, whehter this is a good approach or not? Should I build from scratch? Reason I didn't is because I don't know where uddi4j.jar and wsdl4j.jar are on your build machine. Btw, I've attached wsil4j.jar seperately because, AFAIK, "cvs diff" turns binary into ascii.

Anyways, have a look at the patch, let me know your questions and concerns. We can sort out the details.

Thanks,

Jeff

> I work on the Eclipse Web Tools Platform Project (WTP). One of the features included in WTP is the ability to generate a Web service that targets Axis. Obviously, in order to do that, a user would need to "install" Axis into WTP. The install steps are not easy, in fact, they are quite painful... What would be nice is if we can host an Eclipse update manager site on the Axis Web site, so that users can just point to the URL and Axis will be installed automatically. I'll be interested in contributing this piece of the work. Any comments/suggestions?
