Aggregated cobertura report
How can I create code coverage reports aggregated across all my pom's
modules using cobertura-maven-plugin?
Currently using the defaults I'm having much trouble, the site goal run from
the command line doesn't even generate proper links to each module
separately. That would seem to be the basics, but in addition, what I
really need is a single cobertura report that includes all modules data.

The merging inside the configuration doesn't add the things together because
it isn't known ahead of time if replacement or merging makes sense for a
given plugin.

Child POM inherit reporting configurtaion from parent POM?
Posted by "REMIJAN, MICHAEL J [AG/1000]" <mi...@monsanto.com>.
I have javadoc reporting configuration in a PARENT POM an it looks like
this:
<reporting>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-javadoc-plugin</artifactId>
<inherited>true</inherited>
<configuration>
<links>
<link>http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api</link>
<link>http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/chain/apidocs</link>
</links>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</reporting>
Now for a CHILD POM I want to add a new <link> for a library which the
CHILD project uses. So I have this in the CHILD POM
<reporting>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-javadoc-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<links>
<link>http://flickrj.sourceforge.net/api/</link>
</links>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</reporting>
My problem is Maven isn't combining the two. I expected
help:effective-pom to have 3 <link> tags but it only shows the one from
the CHILD POM. So the CHILD POM configuration is overriding the PARENT
POM. Is there a way to get Maven to combine the two?

To get the same effect, you could look at the goals that are bound in
the site lifecycle and bind them to phases in the default lifecycle.
(It's really just site:site -- see
http://maven.apache.org/guides/introduction/introduction-to-the-lifecycle.html#Built-in_Lifecycle_Bindings
.)

RE: prevent absolute file path in "project" assembly
Posted by "CORUM, M E [AG/1000]" <m....@monsanto.com>.
There are two other configuration files that you'll want to investigate besides your pom for assemblies. I usually have a /main/assembly directory with a component.xml and then an assembly descriptor file. If you can't get what you need from this URL (http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-assembly-plugin/assembly.html ), let me know and I can provide some examples.

I'm trying to use the assembly plugin with the "project" descriptorId and when I run this the zip file it creates contains the absolute directory on my file system to the project - in the zip file is c:\an\absolute\path\to\my\project How do I configure the plugin to only have the project directory in the zip file?

Re: Aggregated cobertura report
Posted by Da...@medavie.bluecross.ca.
Hi David.
I am not an expert in the cobertura maven plug-in, so I cannot answer if
what you want to do can easily be done.
However, if what you are looking for is a real view into what is happening
across all of your sub-modules, you might want to look into using the
maven dashboard plugin (found here --->
http://mojo.codehaus.org/dashboard-maven-plugin/). I am not connected with
the development of this plugin, but I am a VERY happy user of it.
Also, I think I may be able to help you with the problem you are having
with the site sub module links. The site plugin does not build links that
are usable unless you are getting ready to deploy the site. To simulate
that situation, use site:stage. This will create an entire site tree
within the staging directory (which is a sibling to the site directory).
I hope this information helps you get what you are looking for.
Thanks.

Debugging is at least twice as hard as programming.
If your code is as clever as you can possibly make it,
then by definition, you are not smart enough to debug it.
