[jira] [Commented] (MNG-7635) Investigate how to safely propagate user properties to dependencies (see MNG-5982 and MNG-7417)
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-7635?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17939278#comment-17939278 ]
Guillaume Nodet commented on MNG-7635:
--------------------------------------
We'd have to be extra-cautious about letting user properties override stuff in dependencies. This should generally *not* happen.
One valid exception would be for OS-platform activated profiles (a la {{javafx}}) maybe. I'm not even sure we should support {{system}} scope. The only real valid use case was for the JDK, but is long gone afaik.

> Based on the linked issue we need to investigate, fix and document how a user can safely and explicitly override model properties in dependencies with user properties without interfering with model properties he cannot see burried in transitive POMs.
