Could not retrieve connection info from pool - DB2

Hi,

I'm now using version 3.2 RC2 and I'm receiving the
following:
Could not retrieve connection info from pool.

My property file has the following:
torque.defaults.pool.maxIdle = 8
torque.defaults.pool.maxActive = 10
torque.defaults.pool.maxWait = 10000
torque.defaults.pool.timeBetweenEvictionRunsMillis=
300000

Since I wil have approx 20 users hitting my app at the
same time, I'm not sure what to set these to, or is
there a default I'm not setting??

Thank you for any help!
Jim

Hi Jim,

In my personal experience, that does not play much of a role. Getting 20
connections should take about a second or less on usual hardware, so the
users will not experience any difference.
But another positive effect of setting the initialSize to a value larger
than zero is that if you cannot connect to the database, you get exceptions
right at startup, which is usually what you want.

Personally, I do not set initialSize, but thats just because I'm lazy and I
never needed it...

Thank you Thomas..

Is it also a good idea for me to set the initialSize
to 20 or 30? Does that help or hinder??

Hi,

if you have 20 concurrent users, you pool should at least allow for 20
active connections. I would rather use 50 if I were you. You should also
increase maxIdle accordingly, again use at least 20 for it. You might also
want to check that the database itself allows at least (maxIdle +
maxActive) concurrent connections.
Then, you can also set how the pool behaves when it hits a limit. I believe
you can instruct the pool to simply wait for a freed connection instead of
throwing an error. Read the dbcp property guide at
http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/configuration.html
