Apache Open office,
I have used your free word processor program for several years. I have
noticed words have been deleted from saved documents. many of these
documents are of importance. I do use the computer fast but I should not
have to deal with losing important meaning in documents. these are often
documents sometimes on research that helps people of all backgrounds.

AOO is a old school app, it does not change documents on its own. So
something needs to have happened that caused the change.
Against data loss only a backup will help. so maybe you should store
your document on multiple places (cdrom, usbstick, harddisk, cloud,
external disk of sort).
Does this help?
All the best
