Form Feed character

I am using XalanJ1.2.2 to transform some XML into text. I need to include
Form Feed characters in the output. When I try to do something like
<xsl:text></xsl:text> I get the following error:

chrysalisServlet(): Caught exception:
org.apache.xalan.xslt.XSLProcessorException: Character reference "" is
an invalid XML character.
chrysalisServlet(): Caught exception toString():
org.apache.xalan.xslt.XSLProcessorException: Character reference "" is

Things like <xsl:text>
</xsl:text> and <xsl:text></xsl:text> work
just fine. Does XML have something against Form Feeds? Is this an Xalan
problem (if it was XML - wouldn't Xerces complain before Xalan)? Is there
some way around this?

Thank You,
Art
