Logging stops after Web Services call

Summary: Logging stops after Web Services call
           Product: Log4j
           Version: 1.2
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: AIX
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: Other
        AssignedTo: log4j-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: cipriani.m@mellon.com

we use both log4j and several apache packages for a web service interface. we
see that log4j works great, until the first web service call is used. at that
point, all writing to the logs stops.

we had to revert back to System.err and System.out logging.

any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
