Querying cluster nodes list

I thought mistakenly that getClusterMetrics() would return information about the cluster's node, or about a queue's nodes, but this doesn't seem to be true - it is only a count. How can a YARN application query the available node list on a cluster and what resources are configured on each node?
Thanks
john
