Ofbiz end user docs

Hi,

Are the end user docs available somewhere in an open format (odf/xml)?

Thx,

Rafiu.

We're migrating the content from the Undersun doc site to the docs.ofbiz.org Confluence server. There are some examples from the few hours I spent doing the PoC work on this that are basically all of the docs currently in the end-user documentation space.

You might want to start by learning about Confluence and the wiki markup they use (though you can do much through their visual editor). We're basically taking the HTML from the existing site and converting it to that markup, plus reformatting a bit to clean it up (though that is a secondary priority).

There is more information in the intro page in the end-user doc space. You should add comments to that page for any section you work on.

BJ,

I have added access permissions for your user on the Undersun doc site. Your username for the account I found in there is "bjfree@free-man.net" and you password is as it was before, or you can request a new one from the login page.

For now please add new pages to the OFBiz wiki space and then existing editors can review them and move them to the end-user doc space.

David I have not volunteered due to my poor grammar. as you can tell I
can't write very well. Just a good programmers :)
However if it is just moving files and restructuring, I can give you a
couple hours a day.

Rafiu,

I have extended the time on your account on the Undersun doc site (though 2010, hopefully that should do it). Your username is "rafiu.fakunle@xinit.com" and you password is whatever you used before on that system. You can request a new password on the login page if needed.

On the docs.ofbiz.org site, please create new pages in the OFBiz wiki (OFBIZ) space and then one of the existing editors can review it and move it into the end-user docs space.

Thanks for your help!

-David

Right. I guess I can commit 2hrs a Sunday. At least I get to learn
Confluence at the same time. Where's the recruitment office?

Re: Ofbiz end user docs

Rafiu,

We aren't selling the online docs any more because we no longer have a technical writer working on them full time. We also aren't handing out accounts for free because we'd like some help moving the docs to the new server and editing and cleaning them up, so for right now the only way to get access to those docs (if you don't already have a paid account) is to volunteer to help migrate the content.

My hope is that this effort will be over ASAP and then the whole end-user documentation effort will be much more collaborative, and more freely available to OFBiz users and developers in general.

Can I get access to that? IIRC that's the most comprehensive docs set
available for OFBiz.

My guess is it's because of the tedium of manually moving the content
across. Data entry is pretty much incredibly boring; worse still, wheel
reinvention. If the content is already there, then we need to figure out
how to move it over automagically rather than doing copy-paste.

Which end user docs are you referring to?

The ones from OpenSourceStrategies are, I believe, in the Word doc format but with OpenOffice could certainly be converted to odf.

The stuff from Undersun is still sitting in the online doc server. I asked around for volunteers to move it to the Jira server at docs.ofbiz.org, and while a few people expressed interest nothing has gone into that yet. It's there for the taking though!
