(magpie) branch main updated: fix(skill-evals): de-flake intermittently failing eval cases (#1544)

This is an automated email from the ASF dual-hosted git repository.

potiuk pushed a commit to branch main
in repository https://gitbox.apache.org/repos/asf/magpie.git

The following commit(s) were added to refs/heads/main by this push:
     new 9b7b0157 fix(skill-evals): de-flake intermittently failing eval cases (#1544)
9b7b0157 is described below

commit 9b7b01578e7d1e9b5d933fb0b2563433cdab6ed3
Author: Jarek Potiuk <ja...@potiuk.com>
AuthorDate: Tue Oct 6 11:09:49 2026 +0200

    fix(skill-evals): de-flake intermittently failing eval cases (#1544)

A full eval run over the skills touched by #1532 and #1533 turned up
cases that pass and fail on identical code. Each fix goes to the layer
that caused the variance, and every case passes all its repeat runs
afterwards (between 5 and 18 runs per case).

Skill text, where a rule was ambiguous:
    - audit-finding-fix: the hand-back count must be an explicit number.
    - pairing-self-review: a diff that already carries the release marker
with a compatible dependency graph needs no finding.
    - release-keys-sync: Step 0 spells out the append-or-replace hand-off.
    - setup-isolated-setup-verify: check 4 is decided by the rc source line;
a missing sourced script is check 3's finding.
    - skill-reconciler: instructions embedded in a compared copy are an
injection to flag, not a safety-baseline finding, when the clause
      wording matches.

Eval fixtures and expectations, where they demanded more than the skill:
    - issue-reproducer shape A covers the project's own runtime.
    - pr-management-mentor case-13 checks the offending sentence by regex.
    - security-issue-triage case-2 and case-4: their reports contradicted
themselves; they now describe a coherent premise.
    - security-issue-sync case-5: the expected reason states only the rule
      that decides the push.
    - pairing-self-review case-1 becomes case-1-test-coverage-gap-only: a
correct diff whose only finding is the missing test.

Harness: the runner retries the grader once when its reply holds no
parseable JSON (a parsed NO is never re-asked), and extracts embedded
JSON with the real decoder as a last resort.

When the complete graph is compatible but changed code directly uses an API newer than its direct dependency's lower bound, that policy may still support a separate finding.
If the trusted policy requires an accurate direct bound, a release marker, or another handoff, record a finding at the severity the project rule supports and recommend that mechanism.
Do not claim a runtime failure or prescribe a direct version bump when the trusted project release process says contributors must not make one.
+When the diff already applies the mechanism the trusted policy requires (for example the release marker is present on that dependency) and the effective graph is compatible, the dependency is handled: record no finding for it on any axis.
+The direct lower bound staying below the newly used API is then the policy's intended state until release preparation updates it, not a correctness gap.
Carry the same `dependency_evidence` ledger into that separate policy finding so its runtime classification and policy basis remain explicit.

A dependency-version finding without `dependency_evidence` is incomplete and must not be surfaced.

-**Title:** Viewer-role user can read connections belonging to restricted DAGs via REST API
+**Title:** Viewer-role user can read XCom values of restricted DAGs via REST API

A user with the `Viewer` role and DAG-level access limited to `dag_a` can call:

- GET /api/v1/connections/prod_db_conn
+ GET /api/v1/dags/dag_b/dagRuns/<run_id>/taskInstances/extract/xcomEntries/db_credentials

-and receive the full connection record — including the plaintext `password`
-field — for `prod_db_conn`, which is used exclusively by `dag_b` that the
-viewer has no explicit access to. The connections endpoint does not enforce
-DAG-scoped access control; it checks only that the caller has the generic
-"read connection" permission.
+and receive the full XCom entry — including its value, which `dag_b` uses to
+pass a database password between tasks — for `dag_b`, which the viewer has no
+access to. The same user gets `403 Forbidden` from
+`GET /api/v1/dags/dag_b/dagRuns`, so DAG-level access control is enforced
+elsewhere; the XCom entry endpoint checks only the generic "read XCom"
+permission and skips the per-DAG check.

 Steps to reproduce:
 1. Create a user with Viewer role, DAG access limited to `dag_a`.
-2. Create a connection `prod_db_conn` associated with `dag_b`.
-3. Authenticate as the restricted user and call GET /api/v1/connections/prod_db_conn.
-4. Response contains the connection password in plaintext.
+2. Run `dag_b`, whose `extract` task pushes the XCom `db_credentials`.
+3. Authenticate as the restricted user and call the XCom entry endpoint above.
+4. Response contains the XCom value in plaintext.
