I'm not sure I fully understand the code you wrote, but you have
convinced me about using a listener... after reading your messages and
thinking a bit more about the issue, it seems a lot more natural to
have a listener parameter in the component, and let the enclosing page
handle the subsequent behavior using whatever suitable for the
situation (in this case a callback).
