[I] improve sbt build setup? [texera]
pjfanning opened a new issue, #3806:
URL: https://github.com/apache/texera/issues/3806
There are multiple build.sbt files instead of having 1 that defines the submodules.
The key advantage of having 1 build.sbt is that you can better control the dependency versions. The current build.sbt versions often use the same dependencies but with different versions.
It's also easier to maintain sbt - eg having just 1 build.properties file.
https://github.com/apache/pekko-http is an example of an ASF project that uses sbt and that manages multiple modules within the one build.sbt.

Hi PJ thanks for the suggestion. For now we are kinda in the transition phase where submodules require different dependencies and versions. For instance the drop wizard version has to differ on submodules, and we are in the process to align them.
I agree with you eventually we want to improve and simplify build files.
But for now we may want to keep them arranged separately.

Also, we want to keep each submodules self-contained, since they are serving for different target and to be built independently. Any particular benefit to merge them into one single file?

You already have https://github.com/apache/texera/blob/b0075f6350e86ed363209350f2a31ca6a4b48b9a/core/build.sbt - so I wonder why you need all the build.sbt that in the subdirs like core/file-service/build.sbt

@Yicong-Huang thanks for the quick response. The dependencies are really very messy - and you have many outdated dependency versions with very exploitable security issues - eg Netty and Jetty both need upgrading (but many other jars need upgrading too)

Yes- we should update/upgrade many of the dependencies. @aglinxinyuan @bobbai00 lets have a plan on cleaning the dependencies, especially on the backend (sbt).
