Re: New accidental Java 2 dependency in ant?

There have been a number of Java 2 dependencies introduced into ant over
the last few weeks. Now that I have commit access, my plan is to remove
all of them by tomorrow. I plan to test on the IBM JDK 1.1.8 and on the
infamous Sun/Inprise j2sdk122 JDK on RedHat Linux 6.1 as well as with the
Sun 1.1.8 and Sun 1.2.2 JDKs on Windows NT. After I am done, if people
experience any problems with any other combination, I will gladly take a
look into it.

I'm not a big fan of checking in binaries, and will take a look at building
a bootstrap.sh based on the existing bootstrap.bat file.

This being said, I don't plan to remove ant.jar, I merely plan on replacing
it with a version which it capable of not only building itself but also
tomcat on the four platform/jdk combinations listed above. My request to
all the other committers is that this jar file not be replaced again until
something approximating this level of testing is performed.

+1, I agree.

I checked in a version yesterday :-)

As you may noticed, the nightly builds are not working since we moved
to locus, I am working on setting them up again.
I will (re)start sending the nightly mails to the list with the build results.
