[users@httpd] unable to configure apache_2.0alpha6

hi,

I am working on FreeBSD 4.6.2-RELEASE. I downloaded apache_2.0alpha6 from
the site, but am unable to configure it. I did a ".buildconf" and then
tried configuring, but got errors like :

/configure: line 8487: syntax error near unexpected token `else'
/configure: line 8487: `else'

I would appreciate any help on this.
