Literal Encoding for Element in Axis

Hi,

I am having trouble accessing a service which returns a DOM element.  This
server is running Soap 2.2.  The client is Axis.  I am getting a 

No Serializer found to serialize a 'org.w3c.dom.Element' using encoding
style 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/'

error.  How should I go about and set the encoding style to the above?
